For Mike’s birthday, I booked us each a spot in Apotheke Academy’s Market Fresh Mixology class. Apotheke is a pharmacy-style cocktail bar / dimly-lit speakeasy hidden in Chinatown. This class was focused on market fresh ingredients from Apotheke’s own rooftop garden and local Chinatown vendors. Next time, we are going to the Prohibition Era class (“Birth of the Speakeasy & Classic Cocktail”). More details and photos of our class below
The class is during the day, and we left completely boozed and we were wandering around Chinatown in broad daylight feeling cheeky as we were secretly wasted. We then caught the subway to Midtown for Mike’s birthday dinner at Momofuku Má Pêche (Asian-American fusion by David Chang) because Mike as a huge David Chang fan wanted to consume a large amount of DC’s famous fried chicken for his birthday
He also made us consume these flaming “Stunt Double” shots made with absinthe-laced bourbon and hickory-smoked peaches
Next up was the “deal-closer” // Muddled blueberries, horny goatweed tea (an aphrodisiac), Denizen rum, agave, egg whites and some other things which I can’t remember (again, blame the booze!), garnished with blueberries
After that we were in search of a feed and tried to get into Joe’s Shanghai, but even at 4PM it had a line out the door and a long wait, so instead we went to a nearby bakery and quickly consumed some carbs before catching the subway to midtown for Mike’s highly anticipated fried chicken dinner (we also ate pork buns, lobster rolls and drank sake, but mostly he just wanted the famous fried chicken)
